About

After working for several years in education, I recently completed a BA in Fine Art (gaining First Class Honours). Having been awarded A.H.R.C. funding, I am currently continuing Fine Art research at Masters level. Although I have engaged in a multi-disciplinary trajectory, my current practice is based in the abstract: investigating through process what the materiality of colour can express in relation to my theoretical research concerning existence and the sublime.

Artist Statement

What it is to doubt - to be uncertain: to seek out elusive truths, only to have them slip away again, unresolved. Such is the paradoxical nature of my curiosity about existence and the enormity, complexity and incomprehensibility that this involves. My paintings intend to question these ideas through the building and collapsing of illusion.

Colour, in “…an engagement with its own identity as a kind of beingness”* is captured and suspended at the very moment of becoming something other. Like a still frame from a moving image, liquid pigment is arrested in mid flow and time is stopped. What could be transient becomes permanent. A split second lasting forever: an eternal ‘now.’
